An overview of coconut oil

Coconut oil is made from the fruit (nut) of the coconut palm. It is rich in medium-chain fatty acid such as caprylic acid and lauric acid.
Coconut oil contains a range of saturated fats . These are known as medium-chain fatty acid. When applied to the skin, it has a moisturizing action.

Coconut oil is often used to treat eczema or premature infant growth. However, it is also used to treat psoriasis and obesity. It can also be used for breast Cancer, MS, heart disease, and other conditions. There is not enough scientific evidence to support this use. It may be effective for

  • Eczema (atopic dermatitis). Coconut oil can be applied to the skin and reduces eczema symptoms for children better than using mineral oils.
  • Premature infants: Growth and development Coconut oil can be applied to the skin premature infants to improve temperature, breathing and skin overall growth.

Coconut oil is being considered for many other purposes. However, there aren’t enough data to determine if it is beneficial.

High cholesterol – Coconut oil is a fat that can raise cholesterol. Consuming coconut oil in regular meals can raise low-density lipoprotein ( LDL) cholesterol levels. People with high cholesterol might have a problem.
